Governors

All Governors are volunteers and are responsible for the strategic management of the school.

 The Governing body’s role is to:

  • Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for their school;
  • Work with the head teacher and hold the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff
  • To oversee the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Governing Body works closely with the head teacher and the senior leadership team and collectively they are responsible for the strategic overview and evaluation of the school’s performance.

Each individual Governor has a responsibility, working alongside other members of the Governing Body, to the pupils and staff of the school and the school’s wider community.

Our governors are grouped into five categories, currently these are:

  • Staff Governors: elected by teaching and non-teaching colleagues at the school. The head teacher is a member of the governing body.
  • Parent Governors: elected by parents, these governors themselves have children attending the school
  • Authority Governors: appointed by a panel of local councillors from Bracknell Forest council
  • Community Governors: appointed by the governing body as they have complementary skills that will contribute to the effective governance and success of the school
  • Associate Members: Associate Members are not governors but can attend full governing body meetings (but are not allowed to vote) and are appointed by the governing body as they have complementary skills that will contribute to the effectiveness of the governing body.

The Governing Body is undergoing a statutory reconstitution and as of 1st September 2015 there will slight changes to the Instrument of Government, allowing greater flexibility to the composition and appointment of governors. An Instrument of Government is the legal document for Local Authority schools that records the constitution of the governing body and the term of office for each category of governor.
